Guatemala Lacrosse Festival 2011
Six lacrosse players from Greely High School in Cumberland, Maine traveled to Guatemala City to support the August 2011 Guatemala Lacrosse Festival. There were about 200 lacrosse youth from Guatemala at the festival. The six players, plus some Americans in Guatemala and the coaches of the group, played in the first ever competition between a US lacrosse team and a Guatemala All-Star team. There was also a very successful competition among the girls teams from Guatemala. This was a first.
We did lacrosse clinics for the youngest group of lacrosse players at Safe Passage, another clinic for the older players, and a big festival for the teams from six other Maya Lacrosse communities. The festival was dedicated to a one of the founders of the Palin lacrosse program, a boy we lost after he got tangled up in a gang.
